how to find login associated with a specific password?

Hi @dldvorak - I can certainly help you with this.

The password fields of your Login items are included in Search. You can type the password (or part of the password) into the search bar in any of the 1Password apps and the search results will include any Login items that use that password.

You can then Use the password generator to change and strengthen your passwords.

I'd recommend using a unique password for each of your items as re-using passwords presents a security risk.

Sorry to bring this back up, but can you please verify if this is still true? I cannot get this to work at all.

I have the same use case as the OP, there was a breach someplace and it shows some random PW is out there, so I need to search for it to find what it's used for. Not working for me on the web or Android app.

To test it, I copied an in use, current PW (thinking maybe the PW in question was a historical PW and search only gets current) and searched for it and nothing comes up.

So it does seem to work on the actual desktop app...but not on the phone or web (I actually had no idea there was a desktop app tbh).

Thanks for the reply. Regarding the phone, try these steps in 1Password for Android:

1. Open and unlock 1Password for Android.
2. Tap on Search (the magnifying glass) in the navigation bar at the bottom of the app.
3. Type or paste in the password that you're searching for.

The Find field at the top of a list of items won't search the password field in the mobile app. You need to use the Search page. Let me know if that doesn't work.

or web

The web app is a simpler version of the desktop app and doesn't currently search the password field. I recommend using the desktop app instead for now. I'll let our development team know that you'd like to see enhancement to the web app as well. 🙂

Interesting, thanks for the insight. That did work that way in the Android app as well. Now to reemmber that when they next breach happens...

Funny story...I couldn't get this to work even in the desktop app, but only for one specific password. (It's one that is used in multiple logins, but it's a SAML SSO domain federated situation that is used to sign in to multiple places, so it's really just the one account with multiple 1Password entries to make autofill life easier...)
The fact that other passwords were able to be looked up made me realize it wasn't a software issue. Sure enough, I changed the password to one of the entries that wouldn't appear in search results when I searched for its password and then the search worked again!
...turned out that the 1Password search field was treating the first character of my password that I was searching for as an operator...because it was one. 🤦‍♂️

I'm sorry that searching for the password didn't work. By any chance, are you able to share the character that prevented the password from being searched? I'd like to look into that further.
