iCloud.com Passkey issue on Sonoma and Safari (and iOS 17)

Question

I'm trying to get a 1P Passkey assigned to my icloud.com account. I'm using Safari on Sonoma, or Safari on iOS 17. When I click on "Sign in Passkey" on both platforms I get a QR code popup. How can I get a Passkey into 1P for icloud.com?

It looks like Apple automatically saves a passkey for your Apple ID to your iPhone and there isn't yet opportunity to save that passkey in 1Password. Hopefully, as passkeys continue to develop and mature, this will change in the future.
