Is there a concise introduction to 1Password for absolute newbies available in Community or elsewhere?

After doing some reading in Community I find lots of information for people who have experience and are having issues with updates etc. Nothing geared toward a person like me who is completely new to 1Password. Please prove me incorrect on this!!

Good suggestion, @ShoxJeanz!

@Clarea8 on that site, you’ll also be able to find a getting started guide here: https://support.1password.com/explore/get-started/

It will run you through all the basics to get up and running: Importing passwords, getting the 1Password app and extension, creating vaults, and more.

If you have questions along the way, don’t feel shy about posting them here. We were all new to 1Password at some point!

Thank you for the information. It was helpful. For a given web site, I have some multiple entries with the same username and password, but different URLs that are similar but not the same. In addition, I have found that some sites and apps have different URLs for my Android phone versus my Windows computer (Chrome browser). In some cases I would like to clean this up and delete unnecessary entries. How can I do this?

I have some multiple entries … I would like to clean this up and delete unnecessary entries. How can I do this?

Unless 1Password astonishes us by providing the most requested feature - merging - soon, we have to resolve these manually with some assistance from Watchtower.

some sites and apps have different URLs for my Android phone versus my Windows computer (Chrome browser).

If each of these different URLs are website entries in different Login items, then this sounds like you seeing the item which has the Android app associated on the Android device, while another Login item is matched in your browser extension.

As long as your data is sync’ed in each client, this should cease when you have merged and purged all your items.

Thanks for your comments. I was beginning to think the same thing! It could be difficult or impossible to automatically merge various account fragments into one useable account, that works on multiple devices. We’ll see!

Thanks for your reply. Sometimes you can tell the Android URLs because it says “android” somewhere in the URL. But this is not very often. It’s a kind of puzzle! I feel better knowing that others have the same difficulties.

If the duplicate items are exactly the same and in the same vault then you can also use 1Password's Watchtower tool to clean them up:

1. Open and unlock 1Password on your Windows PC.

2. Click on Watchtower in the sidebar.

3. Click on Show Items under Items with duplicates.

If there are items that Watchtower doesn’t catch because they aren’t exact duplicates, you can clean them up manually. Just edit one of the items to include all the information you want to keep, then delete the other item.

I also hear your feedback about wanting an easier way to manage this. I’ve shared your feature request with the team internally.
