Logins vs Passwords

Fairly new user here.
I've read a number of discussions/posts regarding this question; but am still confused as to why I have so many "password" entries even though I use the "login" entry. Most (all?) of mine are not simply passwords as they should be associated with a Login.
Am I correct from reading that if I use 1Password to generate a new password for a site (when signing up or changing a password) and actually click the option to "update" the login; 1Password will still create an associated "password" entry? seems redundant, but I have 10s (maybe 100s) of password entries which do not appear to be useful (see attached example). It is also confusing when selecting a password for a site as there are multiple entries for the URL as in the example shown.
Thanks in advance.
