Question

Long lag when using Chrome extension

I recently updated my mac to Sequoia (macos15) - this may or may not be related to an issue I started seeing with Chrome around the same time.

I have multiple Chrome profiles; when trying to open the 1password extension in one of them, I experience very long lags from when I click the 1password icon to when I see a usable UI.

The problem doesn't present itself when launching the main 1password UI from the Mac toolbar, nor in all of my Chrome profiles. And it also seems not to be a problem in Safari.

I have updated Chrome and de/re-install the 1PW extension multiple times. Each time, it seems to behave fine for a brief period, but then goes back to this long lag.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do we know of a fix?

1Password Version: 8.10.56 (81056028)
Extension Version: 8.10.56.28
OS Version: 15.2 (24C101)
Browser: Chrome

Hello @dhemberg! 👋

I'm sorry that you're seeing performance issues with 1Password in one of your Chrome profiles. If you're only seeing the issue in one profile in Chrome then that can suggest that something in that profile is conflicting with 1Password in some way. So that I can better understand the issue can you tell me the following:

  1. In how many profiles do you run into the performance issue?
  2. If you turn off all other extensions in an affected profile, then does the issue still occur?
  3. If you clear history/cache in an affected profile, then does the issue still occur?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Dave, thank you for your response!

To answer:
1. Doing some testing this morning, I see this happening in multiple profiles, not just one. The experience is not uniform - sometimes the lag is 5-10 seconds, sometimes 30-60 seconds, sometimes the 1PW extension dialog never opens and I have to launch the app itself.
2. I tried disabling all other extensions - each profile tends to have its own unique extensions, I tried this with all of them - and noticed no improvement.
3. I tried clearing history/cache as explained in the link you provided, again no improvement.

Thanks!
