Missing features in 1P8 (that 1P7 had)

I consider myself a power user and so have found 1P8 to remove a number of things that I relied upon to make my experience of 1P efficient.
Here are some things I've noticed with the standalone app:
- Can't update icon with paste. Previously I could copy an image to clipboard, edit an entry, select the icon and paste. Now I need to Choose new icon....

- Can't drag and drop a file to an entry. I now have to select add more -> Attach a File.

- Missing Keyboard Shortcuts for Command 0 - All Vaults, Command 1 - Next Vault etc. I understand that Command 0 now resets zoom which aligns with other macOS apps but another keyboard shortcut would be nice.
- When generating a password, I can't select it and copy it until I press Use. In 1P7 I could copy directly from the generation box. Sometimes I just want to use 1P for generation, not for saving an entry.

- This final one is very strange, I hadn't experienced this until I upgrade to 1P8 but sometimes copying username/password/textfield with keyboard shortcut doesn't work. The system registers the copy (the Edit menu bar item highlights) but when I go to paste else where, it pastes the previous clipboard item. I'm curious to know if this has been reported by anyone else?

As technologies change and the app itself changes, it's a chance to look at past success and any challenges we faced and eliminate roadblocks if possible or consequently build upon any high points that we had. The outcome will hopefully be a better user experience all around.

Wow, quiet a marketing phrase.
So what advantage exactly brings me the installation of the additional safari app?
And why can't you just simply give me the same functionality without an additional app I have to install?

You can use the app without 1Password for Safari, if you do so, you'll lose the browser integration. In such a situation you would need to copy and paste your data as you deem fit. The only really change here (relatively speaking) is how it's packaged. Previously, it was part of the app and now it is entirely separate.

For me, personally, I would install it as it helps prevent me from entering my details on a fraudulent site. The choice is yours. You are free to make 1Password 8 work to your desires. It excels when it works in unison with its companion 1Password in the browser (extension).

  • You only need to open 1Password in the browser once and configure it. From then on it resides in the Applications folder and you should not have to interact with it.

Ok, I understand.
So the Safari App simply replaces the old Browser Plugin.
I'll give it a try, thank you!

Sort of. The Safari app delivers the new 1Password for Safari extension. It is a (necessary) mechanism for distributing Safari Web Extensions (see: Apple developer documentation). There are two primary advantages for us to use a Safari Web Extension:

  1. It allows 1Password users to use 1Password for Safari either with or without 1Password for Mac, and vice versa
  2. It enables us to deliver a nearly identical experience regardless of which browser the customer chooses to use

I hope that adds some clarity. Please do give it a try and let us know how it goes. 😃
