Question

My account has been breached and I’m locked out

Somebody got into my terminal on my Mac. My account has been breached, and I’m locked out. My password does not work anymore, and the recovery code doesn’t work either. I can’t access my account online or thru the app on any of my apple devices or thru Chrome where I had it as an extension.

First I got error message that the recovery code was too new. I think I made it right after the breach, unfortunately, so it was rejected as too new. Every time I’ve tried to enter it since then, I get that it was canceled before, so it’s not going through

I’m afraid somebody else is using my 1password account. I don’t know what to do. Please help.

Any help greatly appreciated. Meanwhile I’m hurriedly changing all my truly crucial passwords. I have a home office and run a one-person business. I shudder to think what might happen as a result of this attack.

You don't mention contacting support. This is the first thing to do, providing precise, relevant details. You will need to be patient at a time when it will be hardest to do so, as the response will probably be slow. Post your ticket number here for the Community staff.

You say "locked out", but don't mention any of the steps you have taken to recover your account, aside from the recovery code, which appears to be giving you a familiar problem.

Do you have a sufficiently recent 1PUX backup? If so, then you can import this into another trusted password manager and use that to change all your passwords while you regain control of your 1Password account.

Good luck and try to not panic. This will take effort and patience, but by the time you've finished, you should be in a better place than when you started.

Hello @Mslaurie! 👋

I'm sorry that you're unable to access your 1Password account. I've located your ticket and have moved it to the correct support team. I'm sorry for the delay in replying and one of my colleagues will send you an email soon, please keep an eye on your inbox.

Since we have a communications channel open via email, I'll close this community thread.
