I have a passkey for google saved to 1Password login.
This is my first passkey and I am stuck already!
So I try to sign in using the passkey and a qr code pops up.
How am I gonna scan that on the same iPhone.
I tried taping the code long press, but nothing I am trying works. I have two identical iphones so how would I do this.
I mean I have scanned codes before with my other iPhone for other things not passkey related, but how do I do this one.
I thought it was supposed to take user name and password and then passkeys lets me in.
It is not working out.
How do I get 1Password to ask me to create a passkey?
Do I have to use extentions I got the latest 1password.
Currently not using extensions cause I rather not.
I am thinking about trying passkeys for Apples password manager for logins and everything else for 1Password except passkeys I bet it will work so here goes, so never thought I would do that.

How do i get 1Password app or 1Password website to ask me to create a passkey. I have signed out of both and when I sign back in nothing ask.

Ok I figured out how to get the my password togo e me the option to login with a passkey. I had to add a physical security key then sign out and back in.
Then a freaking qr code pops up and wants still me to use the devices camera to scan it like google, but how? I mean I could try using my other device that is synced an is my other iphone e with a camera.
So do I scan it like adding a one time password from my other device? That does not work.

Hello @bugwhat! 👋

Thank you for your interest in trying passkeys! As a start please make sure that you've done the following:

  1. Update your iPhone to iOS 17: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support (CA)
  2. Update 1Password for iOS to the latest version: How to keep 1Password up to date

Next, check to see that 1Password is setup to save and fill passkeys:

  1. On the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap Passwords > Password Options.
  3. Turn on Turn on AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys.
  4. Select 1Password.

Then try to save or fill a passkey using this guide: Use 1Password to save logins and sign in to apps and websites on your iPhone and iPad

If that still doesn't work then can you tell me if you're trying to sign into the Google website in your browser (and which browser you're using) or a specific Google app (and which app it is)?

I look forward to hearing from you.

I always have the latest versions in all scenarios.
So iOS 17, Safari browser, 1Password app with extensions disabled on purpose.
Currently I do not use the Google app.
So I go to Google website, security area after signing in to create a passkey and it saves a private passkey to logins in 1Password app.
Then I sign out of Google to test signing back in with a passkey now created.
So far so good right.
Then I start from Logins tap Google website address and get an option to select passkey to sign in.
When I do that a qr code pops up.
What am I supposed to do with that qr code besides looking at it?
Is the qr code that pops up actually the passkey itself or some one time verification.
Is the qr code support to happen every time?
So I tried scanning it with iOS build in (find a-code) scanner on my other iPhone (got two identical iPhones that are syncing) and not much happens.
So I also screenshot it to photos and try to scan it on same iPhone and nothing much happens.
So I am not able to sign in to Google with the passkey even though it was saved to logins.

I'm experiencing the same issue. The QR code popping up is Apple's implementation of passkeys. And even though in my Autofill settings I do NOT have iCloud Keychain selected for anything it still appears. 1PW and Apple's implementation appear to be stepping on each other. I don't see myself relying on 1PW to use passkeys until this fundamental issue is resolved.

@bugwhat and @OAW

I'm sorry that you're both having trouble signing into your Google account using a passkey. I just tested the process again myself and I'm able to use a passkey to sign into my Google account on my iPhone. Can you please try the following:

  1. Open and unlock the main 1Password app on your iPhone, find the Login item for your Google account and confirm that you see a saved passkey.
  2. Open Safari.
  3. Go to: https://accounts.google.com
  4. Type in your email address and tap Next.
  5. You might see two different screens:
  6. If you see a screen that says "Use your passkey to confirm it's really you" then tap Continue.
  7. If you see a screen asking for your password then tap Try another way and then tap Use your passkey.
  8. The 1Password "Sign in with your passkey?" prompt will appear. Tap Continue. Unlock 1Password and you'll be signed in.

If one of these steps doesn't work then can you please tell me exactly which step and describe what you see on your screen. 🙂

Oh me.
I tried to do exactly what you say to do and unfortunately to no avail.

(If you see a screen that says "Use your passkey to confirm it's really you" then tap Continue.
If you see a screen asking for your password then tap Try another way and then tap Use your passkey.)

Yea I see the first option and tap continue and guess what happens?
The qr code window pops up and I can do nothing with it.

So I do like you say and try the another way and select passkey and guess what happens?
The qr code window pops up and I can do nothing with it.

I am not using extension and have tried that way to to no avail either.
I have 1Password selected in auto fill in both places.
iPhone 14 Pro max - I have two of those side by side on magsafe stands.
I have the latest iOS - 17.0.2
I have the latest 1Password - 8.10.16

Now I will say this I got a passkey for google on both ends, but It want work cause I can not get past that qr code popup.

Sorry.

@bugwhat

I'm sorry that things still aren't working. Can you check your AutoFill settings in 1Password itself:

  1. Open and unlock 1Password.
  2. Tap the icon for your account or collection at the top left and choose Settings. (If you’re using an iPad, tap your account or collection at the top of the sidebar.)
  3. Tap AutoFill.
  4. Make sure that both "AutoFill" and "Show filling suggestions" are turned on.
  5. Set "Show filling suggestion from" to your entire account, not just a single collection.

Then open Safari and try to sign in again using the exact steps in my previous post: https://1password.community/discussion/comment/696253/#Comment_696253

Let me know how that goes. 🙂

That was it tell everybody else that has a similar same problem what you told me.
Unbelievable that did it! 👻
I just signed in with my passkey for Google.
I am tired now so will try others from watchtower later tonight.
I have some one else who I control their logins, so I had show filling suggestions disabled a long time ago, so I could select either, but I noticed that has been improved.
That did it.

Three questions I would like for you to answer below if you wil.

For each passkey that we setup is it advisable for now to keep the old password?
I would think so for a while.

What about authentication app? Would you say passkey replaces that or keep as an option for a while.

What about physical key? Would you say passkey is just as good, but keep that as an option for a while.

and one final question how do I setup a passkey for 1Password and if I can do that will it work for the 1Password app itself?
