New item creation process feedback

Question

The recent update changed the item creation process:

We’ve simplified the item creation process by displaying fewer categories when you select “+ New item” in the app.

I often need to create items from other categories than the default 6 categories that are displayed (e.g. custom categories). Previously I was able to see all categories at a glance and select the one I need. Now a lot of space is wasted and I need to click an extra button (that is only visible after entering something into the search bar) to show more items, which results in a a single-column list that can't be filtered. It is also counter-intuitive to me that the search bar does not search categories but is used for the item name.

Hello @P4sca1! 👋Thank you for reaching out! The new item creation modal was designed based on customer feedback that requested that we simplify item creation in the app. That being said, you should be seeing a "Show More" option even before you type anything into the search field: I've been able to reproduce the issue in the production version of 1Password on my end when using the German language. The good news is that the beta version is working properly, if you'd like to give that a try then you can find instructions here: Use 1Password beta releasesHopefully the fix makes it to the production version soon.-Dave
