Question

[Nightly] Watchtower not detecting a duplicate password?

Hi all,
I'm using 1Password for Windows 8.10.38 (81038044) on the Nightly channel. I have two Logins that I know have the same password and Watchtower is not flagging this as an issue. These are for two different sites that use the same account to login, so it is possible that 1Password knows about this and accounts for this. Was this intentional?

If you're curious, the sites are Hulu and Disney+, both of which use a MyDisney account for login but have different domains.

Thanks!
Dan

Hello @BlindWolf8! 👋

Thanks for reaching out! 1Password maintains a shared credentials list to keep track of different domains using the same login system in order to avoid issues like flagging a reused password that isn't actually being reused across multiple login systems.

I see that disney.com and hulu.com are indeed linked on that list which explains why you're not seeing a reused passwords prompt from 1Password's Watchtower.

I hope that helps. 🙂

Hi Dave,
Thanks for this. This was very helpful! Can this be made more apparent in the UI? This may also allow users to merge "duplicate" entries if they desire or prevent users from entering duplicate information. Just an idea. 🙂

Thanks!
Dan

@BlindWolf8

I think that's a good idea! While I can't make any promises, I've filed a feature request on your behalf with our product team. They'll look into possibly adding such functionality to Watchtower in the future. 🙂
