No option to save my Recovery Code?

Hi, The Blog and Help Pages say that I can copy and save my "Recovery Code" when I go to Manage Account and select "Sign in and Reovery," but all I see then are options for Replacing it and Deleting but not of saving it!!?? Can someone tell me how I can copy and save my recovery code? (And I've never understood why/when one needs this if I already have my security key saved).

If you see a truncated key like 12FE••••••98AB, then it appears that you had a code, but did not save it. The full code is not stored by 1Password in order to eliminate the possibility that it can be obtained. Generate a new one right away and save it somewhere safe outside 1Password.

Using your Secret Key provides a method to log into your account in a new client by adding a factor to the authentication, but is otherwise inconsequential.
Using your Recovery Code provides a method to regain access to your account when other methods to access it have failed, with consequences including a new Secret Key.

If you have access to your Secret Key, then you should never need your Recovery Code. Where and how to store and retrieve each should reflect their distinct functions and value.

PS. I suggest waiting for contribution, confirmation, or correction from 1P folks, as there are nuances and details in the documentation which I've not mentioned in order to focus on your apparent situation as I understand it.

Thank you to @AJCxZ0 for the excellent reply! Recovery codes are indeed intended to be used when you've forgotten your account password or don't have access to your Secret Key (or a device where you've signed in to your account previously).

When you first set up your recovery code, you'll be prompted to save it to your device and then enter it as a confirmation. If you've lost access to the code, you can generate a new one on 1Password.com or in the 1Password apps. Be sure to store the code in a safe place.

In the meantime, to ensure our documentation is correct, would you be able to share where had seen reference to being able to copy the code after it had been generated/saved?
