On Firefox for Mac, have to click on the toolbar every time to unlock 1Password

Yes, you are correct the menu bar app is required. Correct without it running closing 1Password will fully quit the application. The menu bar help is required for Touch ID to function in the browser.

No, not to my knowledge. It has been this way as long as I have used a Mac. We have a feature request open to explore this type of ability. I'm not a developer and I can't comment on the logistics. However, I can add your voice to that request.

Nowadays, the real estate of the menu bar is quite limited due to MB[P/A]'s notch. As far as I can see, in Safari, the icon in the text field works w/o the 1Password icon in the menu bar. I really hope this gets fixed soon.

Thanks for reaching out. The menu bar icon stays visible so that you have a visual indicator that 1Password is still open and unlocked in the background even if the main window is closed. Without the menu bar icon 1Password could be open in the background, with your items available to anyone who uses your computer, without you knowing.

If you would like to hide some icons from your menu bar then I know that there are third-party apps out there that allow you to do so. That might provide a solution for the limited space in the menu bar on your Macbook.

@1P_Dave : How come then that in Safari the icon inside the text field works without the menu bar icon active, but not in Firefox? (I have not tested Chrome since I don't use it)
