Question

On macOS, why do I have two 1Password apps in the background?

I see two 1Password apps in macOS, System Settings --> Login Items. They are:

1Password
1Password 7.174......

Can I remove the latter (I'm assuming it's from the previous version and probably was not removed during ver 8 installation)?

Hello @rahavd! 👋

Thanks for reaching out! If you can see all of your items in 1Password 8 then you can safely remove 1Password 7 from Login Items and from your Applications folder.

Let me know if you run into any issues.

That seems insufficient because all I can do from the Settings menu is disallow it to run upon startup, but the entry remains. I would like to fully remove it.

@rahavd

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like there might still be a residual copy of 1Password still installed somewhere on your Mac. Can you try the following:

  1. Open the Terminal app: Open or quit Terminal on Mac
  2. Paste the following: mdfind 1Password kind:Application
  3. Press Enter.

In the output that appears, do you see any other copies of 1Password aside from 1Password 8 (and perhaps 1Password for Safari) in your /Applications folder?
