Question

On macOS, why do I have two 1Password apps in the background?

I see two 1Password apps in macOS, System Settings --> Login Items. They are:

1Password
1Password 7.174......

Can I remove the latter (I'm assuming it's from the previous version and probably was not removed during ver 8 installation)?

Hello @rahavd! 👋

Thanks for reaching out! If you can see all of your items in 1Password 8 then you can safely remove 1Password 7 from Login Items and from your Applications folder.

Let me know if you run into any issues.

That seems insufficient because all I can do from the Settings menu is disallow it to run upon startup, but the entry remains. I would like to fully remove it.

@rahavd

I'm sorry for the delay in responding. It sounds like you only have one version of the 1Password app installed and it's not clear why you're seeing multiple items under "Allow in the Background" in macOS. If you restart your Mac then do you still see the "1Password 7.174" item?

If you do then do you see 1Password 7 in either of these folders:

  • /Library/LaunchDaemons
  • /Library/LaunchAgents

You can access these folders by opening the Finder app and then clicking Go > Go to Folder from the menubar and pasting in the folder location then pressing Enter.
