Passkeys not working on the Mac

On iOS 26, I'm able to select 1Password as an AutoFill provider in the AutoFill & Passwords panel under Settings > General > AutoFill & Passwords. 

On macOS 26.0.1, I'm unable to select 1Password as an AutoFill provider under System Settings and this is preventing me from using passkeys in 1Password in Safari. I have tried disabling AutoFill entirely in System Settings but that didn't help at all. Instead, I get this extremely unhelpful "Choose how to manage your passkeys" dialog (see below) which gets me absolutely nowhere.

How can I fix this? What can I do to allow 1Password to automatically handle all passkey and autofill requests correctly?

Welcome to the community! On the Mac, 1Password doesn't use the macOS AutoFill feature and instead uses 1Password in the browser to fill and save logins, passkeys, and other items. I recommend that you do the following:

I have done both of these things and they DO not allow me to use passkeys from 1Password on my Mac. This is a new issue in macOS 26.0.1

I'm sorry that passkeys still aren't working, I'm using macOS 26.0.1 and passkeys are working for me in Safari so I'll need to investigate further to see what isn't working on your end. Are you using a personal 1Password account or an account associated with your employer?

If you're using a personal account then check the following:

  1. Open your browser.
  2. Right-click on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar and click Settings.
  3. Make sure that "Offer to save and fill logins and other items" and "Offer to save and sign in with passkeys" is turned on.



If those options are already on then can you check to see if you can save and sign in using a passkey on this test website: https://webauthn.io/

If that works then on which websites is saving and signing in with a passkey not working?

It works fine on the webauthn.io site but when I try to use a different site - e.g. Shopify, it keeps invoking the native system dialog. 

I think I figured this out tho - I saved a passkey with the native Passwords app, which meant that even when I turned it off, it was still trying to invoke that one to use the passkey. Once I saved the passkey in 1Password, it worked fine.

The problem with 1Password omitting this feature, and advocating that the browser extensions are suitable for desktop, is that desktop applications also want to use passkeys, such as Discord and Slack, which the web browser extensions do not handle and depend upon the native integration that is omitted.
