Possible to use USB-based thumbprint scanner to unlock 1Password?

I see a thread from 2019 about this:

I'm on a Mac; is this feature available yet? what brand of thumbprint ID does it work with?

Given the nature of how unlocking with Touch ID works, 1Password relies on the Secure Enclave's security characteristics to safely store your secret information in a way that only 1Password can access. Touch ID is only supported on Macs that have a Secure Enclave. We feel the sensitive nature of storing your passwords and other essential information warrants using the additional security provided by the Secure Enclave.

3rd party devices are not supported. I'm sorry for any confusion.
