QR code detection failed

Just realised this should be filed under Mac but not sure how to change it.

It's all good James. How have you been? I'll get it moved, btw.

Thoughts:

1. Are you scanning on the main display screen? I've had a couple of users who could not scan on an attached monitor. Try moving the QR code to the main screen.
2. Have you tired scanning from 1Password for Safari as an alternate method?
3. I can't say I recall needing it on the desktop, but consider increasing the brightness of your display, temporarily, as a test.

If the code is dense, you may need to increase its size. When this happens, I typically increase it twice. Can you try increasing the size of the QR code? You can do this by pressing the Command key (Control on Windows) and "+" while viewing the code in the browser. I typically have great success with this option. There are others you can try below.

• To return to the standard view size in the browser, press the Command key (Control on Windows) and 0.

Potential other options:

You can also try copying the code from the screen optionally. 1Password is able to see the code on the clipboard. I'm not sure if the code is copyable, but you might also give that a try. Right-click and use the copy image action.

Hi @JamesHenderson - we are currently aware of an issue with the QR scanner in 1Password for Mac that can sometimes cause it to fail and the development team are working towards a fix. In the meantime, some improvements have been made in version 8.10.34 of 1Password for Mac. Can you try updating and let me know how you get on?

If you're still running into issues, can you let me know whether it's limited to QR codes from specific sites?

In the meantime, you can use the workaround of scanning QR codes from 1Password for the browser, or copying and pasting text-based TOTP setup codes (where available) directly to the One-Time Password field of a saved Login item.
