Remove Known Accounts at Setup

Hey everyone. I have a quick question that I'm hoping the community can answer. I have been using 1Password for years. First, with my company (we were an early adopter), and then I added two more accounts over time. Up until recently, I added all three accounts to each device I owned or used (home Mac, iPhone, iPad, work Mac, etc). Recent changes to our work security policies are stating that no personal information, such as my two personal 1Password accounts, are allowed on work devices. No worries. It was fun while it lasted. :)

Because of these policy changes, I rebuilt my work computer. When I went to add my work 1Password account to my freshly nuked MacBook, all three accounts were listed as accounts to possibly add to 1Password. My questions for the group are 1) how does 1Pass know which accounts I've added in the past to a brand new computer, and 2) how can I remove those accounts from ever being suggested again?

To add a little bit of additional info, I thought that somehow this may have been stored in iCloud, which would make sense because all of my devices used to use my personal Apple ID. However, the new policy changes required me use an Apple ID that uses my work email address. That ID has existed for a long time, so it's not new.

Any ideas on how this all works and what I can do?

Thanks for reaching out. The account suggestions that you're seeing in the 1Password app on your Mac is being shown because the 1Password app has found a 1Password account in your iCloud Keychain. In order to make it easier to sign into your 1Password account on your Apple devices 1Password will store an encrypted copy of the equivalent of your Emergency Kit in the iCloud Keychain.

If you have an account being found in the details stored in iCloud, and you no longer want that account to show in the list of found accounts, you can remove the data from iCloud keychain using a Mac set up with that same Apple ID as follows:

On the Mac, launch the "Keychain Access" utility that comes with macOS. If you see a prompt asking you to manage your passwords in System Settings, click “Open Keychain Access”.
In the search box in the upper-right corner of the app, search for "com.agilebits.onepassword.b5" (without the quote marks)
Each search result you see is one account's details that are stored in iCloud Keychain
Double-click on the entry you want to examine
Tick the "Show password" box at the bottom of the Attributes tab, and enter your macOS user password when prompted
The contents of the box will show the stored account details - you can click into the box and use the up and down keys on your keyboard to see all of the details
When you have identified the entry that relates to the specific membership you no longer want to have recorded in iCloud Keychain, delete that one com.agilebits.onepassword.b5Credentials entry

Encrypted copies of your Secret Key are stored in your device backups and keychains to provide data loss protection. If you have iCloud Drive enabled and lose your Mac, iPhone, or iPad, you can unlock with just your password.

The following steps should help you remove suggested accounts from the sign-in screen:

In the Finder, click Go menu > Utilities, then open Keychain Access.
Search for b5credentials in the top-right corner.
Select all entries that you find and delete them. You can use the delete key on the keyboard to do that.

Any accounts currently in use will recreate the needed credentials. So there's no need to worry about which ones you're deleting.

At some point in the past you likely signed into the account under the Apple ID.

Thank you both. The data was in the keychain. I deleted it and verified that it no longer shows up.

I did check there before posting, but I searched for "1password" and not "onepassword". :(
