Request: Support Apple Passwords passkey transfer / export destination

Hi 1Password Community Team,

I ran into a passkey migration issue and wanted to ask whether 1Password could support Apple’s Passwords app “export/transfer to another app” workflow.

I accidentally created a Google passkey in Apple Passwords instead of 1Password. In the Passwords app, there’s a “Select a Destination” transfer/export flow, but 1Password never appears as an available destination. As a result, the only practical workaround is to create a brand-new passkey in 1Password and then remove the Apple one, which is doable but not ideal—especially for users who are trying to consolidate credentials into 1Password.

Would you consider adding support so 1Password can be detected as a destination app for passkey transfer from Apple Passwords (and/or otherwise support importing passkeys from Apple Passwords where Apple provides an exchange mechanism)? Even partial support or documentation on the recommended migration path would be helpful.

If it’s useful, I can share my macOS version, browser, and the exact UI steps/screenshots I’m seeing.

Thanks for considering this,

Michael

Hello @MSch! 👋

Thanks for reaching out! You can import data from Apple Passwords to 1Password using an iOS device (your iPhone or iPad) where we support the Credential Exchange standard:

@1P_Dave, What about the reverse path, 1Password to Apple Passwords (desktop or iOS) or Google Passwords? I'd like to have a working backup, in case 1Password (local or web) goes down.

Credential Exchange is inherently a two-way standard. I understand that 1Password was a co-editor of the standard and has committed to implement bi-directional support in 2024. However, I still only see export options to 1Pux and .CSV formats in the desktop export options, neither of which supports Passkeys. Is there another way to export Passkeys?

Two years, and a number of other vendors already support secure export.

So much for "Your data belongs to you." No it doesn't.  All your data are belongs to Roustem.

1Password supports exporting your items using the Credential Exchange standard on iOS (iPhone and iPad). You can find instructions here:
