Safari Extension not loading

I'm sorry that 1Password for Safari isn't opening correctly on your Mac. I'm not seeing the same issue on my Mac running macOS Sonoma 14.7. Can you clarify the issue a little more? Is nothing happening when you click on the 1Password icon in Safari's toolbar? Or are you prompted for your password?

If you are prompted for your password then what do you see when you type it in and press Enter?

What would happen is 1PW would load at Startup but not start. When I would launch Safari, the 1PW extension would load but not start. If I click on a site that requires 1PW, a dialog box appears asking me to enter my password manually. If I do, all is well until I quit Safari. This is the same situation that occurred a couple of weeks ago prior to the update that mysteriously corrected itself.

If I click on the 1PW icon in the Menu Bar I can use my fingerprint to start it. Then, when I go to Safari, the extension is loaded and started. But sometimes I still have to manually start (type in my pw) the Safari extension. 1PW used to load and start at Startup (including the Safari extension) so I never had to enter my password unless I had exceeded the "every 30 days" limitation.

It seems, at least to me, to be very inconsistent. Sometimes 1PW works just fine at Startup (loads and starts the Safari extension). Sometimes not. Everything is current as far as versions go (I haven't updated the MacOS to OS 15 let) and I've even restarted in Safe Mode to hopefully get rid of any startup gremlins.

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like the communication between the desktop app and the Safari extension isn't working. Try this:

1. Open and unlock the 1Password for Mac desktop app.
2. Click on 1Password next to the  in the menu bar.
3. Click Settings.
4. Click Browser.
5. Make sure that "Connect with 1Password in the browser" is on.

Then in the browser:

1. Open your browser.
2. Right-click on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar and click Settings.
3. Make sure that "Integrate this extension with the 1Password desktop app" is on.

If that still doesn't work then do you see a green dot in the browser settings page? Or a different coloured dot and an error message?

Ok. "Connect with 1PW in the browser" is enabled and so is the "integrate this extension with the 1PW desktop app". The dot is green.

It appears that at Startup, the 1PW app is launched but not started. And neither is the Safari extension. I noticed that this afternoon. If I didn't start the desktop 1PW after Startup, then I had to use my fingerprint to start the app if I needed it while browsing. Once I did that, the Safari extension indicated that it too was started (which makes sense). But yesterday, I had to manually type in the 1PW password to open the Safari extension.

It's probably operator error so I'll just keep an eye on it. If I remember correctly (which isn't always the case 😉), 1PW was automatically launched and started at Startup so there was nothing to do but use my fingerprint to start 1PW and drop in the appropriate credentials. It seems now that 1PW doesn't automatically start at Startup. Or has that always been the case?

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry that 1Password for Mac isn't starting when you start your Mac, this is a known issue that our development team is aware of and is working on a fix for. For the time being, I recommend that you manually launch the 1Password app from your Applications folder after restarting your Mac.

Once the 1Password app is running in the background, you'll be able to use Touch ID to unlock 1Password in Safari.

Thanks Dave. After Startup on my MacBook Pro, I can start the 1PW app from the Menu Bar which will also start the extension so I'm good to go as along as I don't shutdown my Mac. Really a minor inconvenience now but that's not how it used to work so I'll just attribute it to a "safety feature" if I ever lose my Mac. That way no one can gain access to my 1PW passwords without my fingerprint or knowing what my 1PW password is.

Hopefully the "Start at login" issue is resolved with a future update soon.
