Question

Safari extension requires password to unlock every use

The Safari extension used to use Face ID or unlock as long as the 1Password iOS app was unlocked. As of the past week or two, the browser extension requires that I enter my master password to unlock every time I use it.

Is this a bug? I am currently running the latest TestFlight build 8.12.38 on iOS 26.6.2.

Hello @1bvr! 👋

I’m sorry that you’re being unexpectedly prompted to unlock 1Password for Safari. If Face ID is enabled for both your iPhone and 1Password, you should be able to use it to unlock 1Password for Safari. Can you try to restart your iPhone and then unlock 1Password for iOS using Face ID before you open Safari and unlock 1Password there.

If you’re still asked to unlock 1Password using your account password in Safari then I'd like to ask you to create and share a 1Password diagnostics report from your iOS device:

Send a diagnostics report (iOS)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support@1password.com

With your email please include:
- A link to this thread: https://www.1password.community/1password-at-home-31/safari-extension-requires-password-to-unlock-every-use-25546
- Your forum username: 1bvr

You should receive an automated reply with a Support ID number.  Please post that number here.  Thanks very much!

Hi @1P_Dave. After following the steps you outlined above, I’m still experiencing the same behavior with the Safari extension locking after a few minutes and not attempting/allowing unlock with Face ID anymore even though Face ID unlock works within the app.

I sent in a diagnostics report, but I will add that I am seeing this same behavior with two different iPhones and an iPad, so it does not appear to be isolated to a specific device or installation. Ticket ID is 792755.
