Safari shows saved usernames while 1Password is locked

In Safari, when I click a login box, my available usernames are shown even though 1password is locked. Only after I click one does it ask me to unlock 1password. So the password is protected, but the usernames are exposed.

Obviously fine most of the time, but some people on some websites might not want all their secret aliases to pop up when a guest is borrowing their computer! In fact, on some sites it could be a problem to just reveal the fact that I have an account at all.

Have I got a setting wrong somewhere?

For what it’s worth, the new universal sign-in overlay doesn’t appear when 1P is locked.

This is what I see when I click in the Email box:

And if I click “Other passwords...” it shows the other logins I have on this domain:

Hi @grb26 thanks for sharing those screenshots.

The menu is coming from macOS’s native AutoFill integration with 1Password which allows macOS to display the available usernames before asking 1Password to authenticate and fill the password.

At the moment, 1Password doesn’t have a separate setting to hide only those usernames while continuing to use native macOS AutoFill. If you’d prefer not to show usernames while 1Password is locked, you can switch back to the 1Password for Safari extension:

Open Apple menu > System Settings > General > AutoFill & Passwords.
Under AutoFill from, turn off 1Password.
Open Safari and select Safari > Settings > AutoFill.
Turn off User names and passwords to prevent Safari’s own password suggestions from appearing.
In Safari > Settings > Extensions, make sure 1Password is enabled.

With macOS AutoFill disabled, the 1Password Safari extension will require 1Password to be unlocked before showing or filling Login items.
