Secure Input remains enabled on macOS 26.6.2 despite DESK-396 fix

Hello,

I’m experiencing a recurring Secure Input issue with 1Password for Mac.

System information:

  • 1Password for Mac: 8.12.36
  • macOS: 26.6.2
  • Build: 25G83
  • Keyboard input source: ABC
  • ApplePressAndHoldEnabled: enabled

After using 1Password or its browser integration, macOS Secure Input sometimes remains enabled even though no password field is focused. This disables the macOS press-and-hold accent menu: holding the A key produces aaaaaa instead of displaying the accent selector.

I understand that version 8.12.32 included a fix for an issue where 1Password could keep Secure Input enabled longer than intended (DESK-396). Unfortunately, I can still reproduce similar behavior in 8.12.36.

Important observations:

  • Universal Autofill has been disabled.
  • The issue still occurs while the 1Password desktop app and browser helper are running.
  • macOS sometimes reports Edge, Finder, WhatsApp, ChatGPT, or another foreground application as the Secure Input owner.
  • Those applications may have no password field visible or focused.
  • Quitting 1Password immediately changes Secure Input from enabled to disabled, without quitting the application macOS identifies as the owner.
  • Reopening 1Password does not immediately reproduce the issue.
  • The process 2BUA8C4S2C.com.1password.browser-helper is active when these incidents occur.
  • The problem has happened repeatedly across several days and application restarts.
  • Restarting the Mac only fixes it temporarily.

One captured incident:

  • Secure Input became active at 09:43:42.
  • macOS attributed it to Microsoft Edge.
  • It remained active for over 20 minutes after leaving the relevant field.
  • Quitting 1Password released Secure Input immediately while Edge remained open.

Another incident showed Finder as the apparent owner. Again, quitting 1Password released Secure Input immediately.

Could this be a regression of DESK-396, or a related issue involving the connection between the 1Password browser extension/helper and the desktop application?

Please let me know if you need any additional logging or testing. I’m attaching a 1Password diagnostics report generated close to the occurrence.

Thank you.
