Severe performance drop when using the 1Password extension in Chrome-based browsers

When using Chrome or other Chromium-based browsers on macOS, I experience a significant decrease in browser performance whenever the 1Password extension is enabled. Without the extension, the browser works normally and performance is not affected.

This issue occurs on macOS 15/26 and with Chrome versions 138–140 (I haven’t tested other versions).

Hello @turrets-clover4i! 👋

I'm sorry that you're seeing performance issues. 1Password in the browser does execute code when running and that can cause an impact in a benchmarking test which is normal with any extension that performs such work. From the Speedometer website: "Prefer using a separate clean browser profile — extensions and non-default browser settings can have a large impact on the score."

Can you tell me a little more about these performance issues? What specifically are you doing when do you notice a decrease in performance? It is loading a webpage? Opening the browser? On which websites do you notice this performance issue? Any information you can provide, such as steps to reproduce the issue, will help me understand what’s going on and work on a solution.
