👋 Hey everyone!

We’ve made it even easier to share your Wi-Fi credentials with nearby family and friends with a new improvement to the Wireless Router item in 1Password: automatic QR codes! Conveniently share your Wi-Fi network name and password via QR code with your nearby family and friends by having them scan the code - no links or extra taps needed!

How does it work?

Starting today, 1Password will automatically generate and display a unique QR code for your Wireless Router item. Simply create the item, fill out the network name and network password fields, and voila! Your QR code will automatically appear and be ready for use 🙌

Can I conceal the code?

By default, the QR code will display automatically for quick and convenient sharing. But, if you’d prefer to have it concealed by default, head to Settings -> Security -> Concealed Fields and deselect "Always show Wi-Fi QR codes”. With this setting turned off, you’ll be able to tap the code to reveal it before sharing.

Where is this available?

This feature is available in the latest version of 1Password for iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, and Linux.

And that’s it! As always, we’d love to hear your feedback on this new feature. Let us know what you think in the comments. Stay safe 🔒

I was excited when this first came out, since this makes it easier to share with family and guests, but then I discovered the QR codes do not work for my setup - when ssid is hidden.  I had reached out to support about this about 9 months ago, but haven't seen a fix included in any updates yet.  Is there one in the pipeline?  Or maybe it's already included and I don't see it?  It's disappointing thinking I need to choose between easy sharing login credentials and having my network secured the way I want (not broadcasting ssid).

Thank you 1Password for continuing to innovate an incredible application. I've greatly benefited from it.

I am compelled to share a suggestion for the QR password introduced. While I'm glad to see it can be turned off, I strongly recommend that it be concealed by default. (Too late now, I suppose . . .)

I just learned about the QR feature in a most unfortunate manner. I was showing my friend the password for our guest network which happens to be in the same login as the main network. I revealed the guest network and showed it to my friend. He saw the QR code and scanned that thinking that was what I was showing him. I didn't even realize what that QR code was for until I noticed my friend had just connected to our main network. :( To make the matter worse, I had just recently updated the password for our main network and updating all our devices on the network with the new password. I then went into my 1password and had to find the setting to conceal all the QR codes.

Thanks again for a really helpful product. Despite my complaint, I still really appreciate 1Password.
