Sony. Inconsistent treatment of passkeys

I tried to log in to a Sony site, but my password didn’t work. I think it might have been too long since I last logged in. So, I decided to create a passkey instead. After that, I went to the PlayStation page to enter a payment method. That’s when I saw this:

“This service doesn’t support passkeys. If you’ve activated [Sign In with Passkey], you’ll need to deactivate it, and then create a password to sign in.”

No problem! I made a new password for the second Sony site. They responded with an email informing me that my passkey has been deactivated. Apparently, this happens when you use a create password..
End of rant.

Hello @j0o! 👋

I'm sorry that you weren't able to use your passkey to enter a payment method. Passkeys are still early days and a lot of different services and websites are still polishing their deployment of passkeys. Some websites will allow you to have both a passkey and password to sign in, others will ask you to choose one or the other.

Out of curiosity, do you have a screenshot of the message that you quoted above? And did you run into it in the Playstation app? Or when opening the Sony Playstation website in Safari or another browser on your iOS device?
