On MacOS / iOS, is it possible to manage passwords in 1Password and passkeys via the Passwords app?

Hello @ba296! 👋

Thanks for the question! In general, we recommend that you pick one password manager and store all of your login credentials there (passwords, passkeys, and other types of login credentials): Turn off the built-in password manager in your browser

Using two different password/passkey managers at the same time can lead to duplicate items and other issues.

That being said, you can turn off passkey support in 1Password on macOS if you wish:

  1. Open and unlock 1Password in your browser.
  2. Click the account menu in the top left corner of the pop-up and choose Settings.
  3. Select Autofill and save, then turn off Offer to save and sign in with passkeys.

Out of curiosity, was there a reason why you wanted to store passkeys outside of 1Password?

Thanks Dave. Actually I don't want to store passkeys outside of 1P, the problem is that I'm stuck using 1Password 7 as my security policies don't allow sync via 1Password.com. And there's no plan to support Passkeys. Is there a version of the above instructions for 1Password 7?

@ba296

Thanks for the reply! As far as I'm aware, there isn't a way to restrict Apple Passwords to just passkeys. If you enable Apple Passwords then you may run into conflicts between Apple Passwords and 1Password when filling and saving passwords in your browsers.

Regarding 1Password 7, please see my reply here
