Subsequent unlock fails after Reset All Settings — iOS 27 Developer Beta

Device: iPhone 16 Pro Max
iOS Version: iOS 27 Developer Seed 2
1Password Version: 8.12.24
Account Type: Personal (1password.com)

Summary
After performing a full Reset All Settings on iOS, 1Password authenticates successfully on initial sign-in but fails on all subsequent unlock attempts with the error "That didn't work. Please try again." — regardless of whether Face ID or passcode is used.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Performed Reset All Settings (Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset All Settings) on iPhone 16 Pro Max running iOS 27 Developer Seed 2
  2. Launched 1Password — Face ID unlock failed with "That didn't work. Please try again."
  3. Disabled Face ID within 1Password settings — passcode unlock also failed with same error
  4. Disabled Face ID in iOS Settings → Face ID & Passcode → Other Apps for 1Password, then re-enabled — issue persisted
  5. Signed out of account within the app, deleted 1Password, reinstalled from App Store
  6. On relaunch, previously saved account appeared in history — deleted it
  7. Scanned QR code from a second trusted device (iPad, iOS 27) to add account fresh
  8. Successfully signed in and accessed vault contents
  9. Closed and relaunched app — unlock via Face ID failed again with same error
  10. Attempted passcode unlock — same error

Result: Every subsequent unlock after initial sign-in fails regardless of authentication method. Need to reenter master password every time.
Expected: Face ID or passcode unlocks the vault on subsequent launches as normal.

Notes: The trusted device used for QR code sign-in has Face ID functioning correctly in 1Password on the same iOS 27 build, suggesting this may be specific to the post-Reset All Settings state on the affected device.

Hello @schwartzki! 👋

I'm sorry that Face ID unlock isn't working for 1Password on iOS after you used the "Reset All Settings" option. Can you try resetting Face ID and then setting it up again: Reset Face ID

If that still doesn't work then I'd like to ask you to create and share a 1Password diagnostics report from your iOS device:

Send a diagnostics report (iOS)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support@1password.com

With your email please include:

  1. Reset FaceID
  2. Signed out of account within the app, deleted 1Password, reinstalled from App Store
  3. On relaunch, previously saved account appeared in history — deleted it
  4. Scanned QR code from a second trusted device (iPad, iOS 27) to add account fresh
  5. Successfully signed in and accessed vault contents
  6. Closed and relaunched app — unlock via Face ID failed again with same error

Still not working and now all my digital ID’s have been removed from the device.

Submitted a Diagnostics Report, hopefully you can resolve this issue.

Thanks

@schwartzki

Thank you for sharing that additional information! I’ve located your ticket and we’ve moved it to the correct team. One of my colleagues will send you a reply via email as soon as they’ve reviewed the diagnostics report. Please continue the conversation there.

I can confirm this behavior on iOS 27 Public Beta 2.

Everything was working fine until today when I temporary disabled both Face ID and password in my iPhone settings.

I re-enabled those a few minutes later and created new Face ID scan, but since that happens, 1Password fails to unlock the app using either Face ID or phone password. I've tried everything, including deleting and installing 1Password again, turning Face ID and other password settings on and off both at 1Password setting and in phone Settings. I also made new Face ID scan one again, nothing helps.

So every time I launch 1Password it starts Face ID, scanning is happening and then there's a message that it was unsuccessful and Please try again. But pressing the Face ID icon on the locked screen does nothing. After app restart it just asks to enter 1Password password.

@Onegin

Thank you for the report and for helping us to test 1Password on the beta version of iOS 27. To clarify, can you share a screenshots of the specific Face ID and password settings that you disabled on your iPhone? Our team is trying to reproduce the issue and your information would be helpful.

Can you also tell me if you’ve recently used the “Reset All Settings” option in iOS? The other reports that we’ve received all involve this feature.

This one. To turn it off you need to erase your Face ID data first.

I did not use the “Reset All Settings” option. My guess is that when you reset all settings, “Turn Passcode Off” also applies and that’s the reason for the mentioned behavior.

@Onegin

Thank you for those details. Could you try resetting Face ID on your iPhone:

  1. Open the iOS Settings app.
  2. Tap Face ID & Passcode.
  3. Scroll down and tap Reset Face ID.
  4. Follow the prompts to setup Face ID again.
  5. Lock your iPhone and confirm that you can unlock it using Face ID.

Then, lock and unlock 1Password using your account password. Then lock 1Password again and try to unlock it using Face ID. If that doesn’t work then, I'd like to ask you to create and share a 1Password diagnostics report from your iOS device:

Send a diagnostics report (iOS)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support@1password.com

Public Beta 3 and 8.12.32 update – the issue still persists.
