Hello folks,

I'm happy to share that you can now add Zen Browser as an additional browser to 1Password for Windows. Follow these steps:

  1. Install 1Password in Zen Browser from the Firefox Browser Add-ons Store
  2. Add Zen Browser as an additional browser to 1Password: Connect additional browsers to the 1Password app

A couple of notes:

  • Make sure that Zen Browser is installed system-wide with admin permissions in the C:\Program Files folder.
  • Zen Browser is not an officially supported browser and you might run into unexpected issues. If you see those same issues with a supported browser like Firefox then let us know by starting a new discussion and we can investigate.

@George1pw

Whenever possible, the team aims to release a new feature across all platforms at the same time but the custom trusted browsers feature requires more dedicated, platform-specific, work for Windows that hasn't been done yet. This work is prioritized based on a variety of factors that include availability of relevant development resources, other features on our roadmap, and the need to complete other work such as security patches and bug fixes.

The team hopes to introduce the additional trusted browsers feature to other platforms like Windows in the future. I've shared your comments and feedback with the team, they're aware of the need for this feature on Windows. Thank you for the feedback and for being a long-time 1Password customer! 🙂

I think it's pretty ridiculous that the 1password team can't keep feature parity between their apps, if a major feature like this isn't available cross-platform, especially this far off, why are you not prioritizing it, or at least providing a temporary solution? Zen browser isn't a small fork by any means, it has over 20k stars on github, which is surely a fraction of the userbase. The source code is all there, the code is signed, what is the big holdup for you guys? Giving all your users these useless canned responses to nearly every single user request is a really quick way for your users to lose faith in your ability to drive features they want and need, interactions like this are what's continuing to push people to open source solutions like bitwarden.

I understand that vetting invididual browsers is not going to be a thing but Windows users need a solution.
If the custom browser option isn't ready then can an exeption be made to vet and allow add Zen browser as a supported browser?

Hi all, just a note here, I managed to get the 1Password desktop app to work with the Zen Browser extension on Linux. The trick was ensuring that the Zen Browser files are not owned by your local user.

I wrote up an article https://kerrenortlepp.com/running-1password-on-zen-browser/ about it and created a https://gist.github.com/kerren/f355d18dd89532c008724c0b10dc6b63 which should automate the process.

I just switched to Zen Browser and... the lack of any plan to address this is disappointing.

What's worse is that the plugin apparently borked itself and kept refusing my primary password even after it had worked for a couple weeks... reinstalling worked, but the combination of these two issues is enough to make me rethink my password management choices.

Just popping by to +1 this, this should be resolved by giving us the ability to add trusted browsers like EVERY other platform has some capability to do this.

I'd love to see this "custom browser" feature on windows. With manifest V3 I am looking forward to ditching chromium based browsers. As of now the only extentions holding me back are 1Password and Grazie (jetbrains tool).
For now ZEN browser seems to be a decent alternative

1Password for Windows should support functionality to whitelist trusted browsers, similar to how other platforms handle this feature!
