Question

Switching to CAD billing

I started using 1password sometime in the last decade, when it was only offered in USD. Now that there is an offer in Canadian dollars, I'd like to switch to that. Is there an easier way than to create a new account and copy all items to the new account. This is a family account, and I really don't relish copying to new accounts for 5 people.

As they should be separate instances probably not by ourselves, but subscribing as I'd like to know for colleagues that would unfortunately sign up to .com instead of .eu :) Good question!

On top of that, you can't move all your private items to a new account in one swoop. No way I'm moving 100s of items one at a time.

You should be able to export all your vaults from one account and import them into another. That may count as two swoops, but the client should handle the conversion from freedom to modern units.
It appears that you might simply be able to cancel your current subscription, then start a new one without any impact to your data, however I would not rely on this working perfectly when it's so easy to securely back up your data.

Nevertheless, to change your subscription I suggest contacting 1Password Billing Support.

That still means I have to go around to all my family members and help them out with this.

Filed a support request. It used to be that 1password was answering questions here. I guess no longer.

Hi @yulmathieu, thanks for writing in.

There is no way to automatically move your data across regions. Each region is a separate isolated production environment with no way to "talk" to the others. It sounds like you're aware, but the method we suggest to do this is to create a new account in your preferred region, then migrate your data. You can find the steps to do so in our 1Password in your region guide, and I'll share them here as well:

  1. Sign in to your new account alongside your original account in the 1Password app (I find this is easiest on desktop).
  2. Copy your items from the original account to your new account. If you have multiple vaults, make sure to copy your items from all of them.
  3. Sign out of the original account on your device(s).

Just to note, files, custom icons, and related item links can't be copied across regions. If you have any time remaining on your original membership, let our support team know in the ticket you opened.

After you've set up your new account and migrated your data you can invite your family members and help them repeat the process. I understand that can be a difficult and time consuming process, but it's the only option to migrate across regions.

I am underwhelmed to say the least that you wouldn't have a complete solution for this.

This requires carefully copying items, with no easy way to double check that everything made it, and recreating all vault shares within the family. This does not appear to be much easier than migrating to another password manager.

To be frank, I'm completely on board with this - imagine if they could 'as easy as pie' transfer you. They have clear boundaries between their service clouds, not something most can say :)
