Question

System locale is ignored when formatting dates

The issue has been reported multiple times already and was marked as resolved in 8.10.80, but it is in fact still relevant for me in 8.12.10 – dates are always displayed in `mm/dd/yyyy` format ignoring the current system one `dd-mm-yyyy`:

Example:

System settings:

App version:

macOS

26.4.1 (25E253)

Hello @igro! 👋

Thank you for reaching out. The 1Password for Mac desktop app sets the date format according to your current preferred language for macOS. Can you share what language is set as the preferred language here:

  1. Click on the Apple logo in the menu bar, then click System Settings.
  2. Click General, then click Language & region

What preferred language is set on this screen?

Hi Dave,

The preferred language is set to English (US), but the date format should be determined by the dedicated locale settings, and as I stated in the first message, it is currently set to `dd-mm-yyyy`.

There is no "English International" or similar available in macOS:

Thank you for looking into this, the issue is super annoying and could lead to real problems when working with documents.

The issue is still relevant on 1Password for Mac 8.12.32 (81232033)

In the changelist for this version there was a promising item:

  • Item date fields now use the date format you’ve chosen in your system settings. If you’ve set a language in 1Password that’s different from your system, dates use that language’s format instead.

But unfortunately, the actual behaviour was not fixed:

@igro

Thank you for the reply. After changing the Date format field in macOS Settings, right-click on the 1Password icon in your menu bar and click Quit. Then re-open 1Password for Mac from your Applications folder.

Do you now see the same date format for the “expiry date” field in your item as what you’ve set in macOS Settings? If you don’t then can you share a screenshot of the entire Language & region window in macOS Settings.

@1P_Dave hi and thanks for the prompt reply!

Sure, I tried to restart the application and even reboot the entire system - unfortunately in both cases 1Password continues to show all the date fields in the US format mm/dd/yyyy instead of the configured dd-mm-yyyy one (long version doesn’t follow the system local as well).
