Question

the "open" balloon doesn't do anything

Though I'm logged in to 1Password and the extension (using safari) clicking on the balloon or the icon has no effect.  It ought to fill the password (and log in, where the field asks for it.  Why isn't it doing that?

Hi @StandUp1111,

To help me better understand what may be occurring, I'd like to ask a few questions if you don't mind:

  • What version of Safari are you using?
  • Does the issue persist after you fully restart Safari?
  • If you right click the 1Password icon in your Safari's toolbar and select Settings, what status do you see beside the "Integration status" setting in the "General" section? Does it say [Status: Connected 🟢] or do you see another status?

Yes the connected status shows green

Yes it persists after fully restarting Safari

I'm using safari Version 18.6

Hi @StandUp1111, thanks for these additional details.

I just have a few more questions to help narrow this down:

  • While the issue is happening, if you click the 1Password icon in your browser toolbar (rather than the icon in the sign-in field), does the extension open normally?
  • If it does open, do you see your item for this website in the "Suggestions" list, and are you able to click the Autofill button to fill it successfully?
  • Is this happening on all websites, or just a specific one? If it’s a specific site, could you share the URL with me?

This happens to me a lot too... the safari extension is getting worse and worse.   

1Password for Mac 8.12.8 (81208026)
MacOS 26.4
MacBook Air M2

Usually have to quit and re-open safari.. sometimes I just reboot to ensure everything works. 

Sometimes the menubar app in Safari shows the red reconnect button, but of course that never works.

Hi @tdehnke, I'm sorry to hear you're running into similar behaviour, although it's good to know that restarting Safari or your device helps.

In your case it sounds as if you might be running into an intermittent connection-related issue. To confirm my understanding, when you say the red reconnect button, is this:

  • The offline indicator - a red cloud that appears at the top of the extension window.
  • The integration indicator - a coloured circle under Settings > General > Integration status.

The connection always showed as working.  

I've since turned off the connection,  but the user experience of having to double unlock 1PW (app and browser) is poor, so hopefully a fix can be found.
