Two-way linking of related items

The current behavior of linking related items works like this:

When linking Item 2 to Item 1...

• Item 1 will show Item 2 under related items
• Item 2 does not show Item 1 under related items

The desired behavior is...

When linking Item 2 to Item 1...

• Item 1 will show Item 2 under related items
• Item 2 will show Item 1 under related items

The desired behavior will save extra steps from having to establish the relationship again on the other item.

Is there a particularly use case for the one-direction linking? I would think most use cases would prefer the two-way direction.
