Question

Unsolicited beta switching

Hi there ! 😊

There's a little problem I occasionally run into with 1Password on macOS. Every now and then, for no apparent reason and certainly without any action on my part, my Mac starts up and I discover that 1Password has switched to the beta channel.

I usually find out pretty quickly when I see the typical beta icon in the dock.

A quick detour through the settings always reveals that the selected channel is still “production” and not Beta or Nightly.

How can I prevent this from happening again? Is this a known problem?

Thanks and have a nice day! 🖖

Hello @Grishkaone! 👋

I'm sorry that you're being switched to the beta version of 1Password. It sounds like you might be running into a known issue with our updater logic that occurs after trying the beta version. Try these steps:

  1. Make sure that you have a copy of your Emergency Kit and that you're signed into 1Password.com in the browser.
  2. Uninstall the 1Password app and remove your local data.
  3. Download and install the latest stable release.

Let me know if you run into any issues.

Hello @1P_Dave 😊

Thanks you for those steps, I just did that, everything is fine for now. This has happened on several occasions, but not often, despite an uninstall. I hope it's the right one!

Hey @1P_Dave 👋

After a few carefree weeks, I turned on my Mac this morning to discover that 1Password had once again gone into beta. 😢

@Grishkaone

I'd recommend talking with my colleagues in email support. It may be necessary to remove the user support folders specific to 1Password and reinstall 1Password allowing it to recreate them.
