Using 1Password for macOS autofill

In macOS Sequoia 15.5, System Preferences has an option under General > Autofill and Passwords that looks like it allows you to select multiple password managers for autofill as you can on iOS, but only the Apple Passwords app is present in the list. Is there some new API that 1Password needs to implement in the app to make this work?

Thank you for reaching out. 1Password doesn't use the "Autofill & Passwords" feature in macOS System Settings so you won't see it listed there. Instead you can fill and save logins using either 1Password in the browser (our browser extension) or using Universal Autofill:

Hi Dave, I tried the "Universal Autofill" instructions you provided, but they appear to be for an earlier version of MacOS (pre-Sequoia). In Sequoia there isn't an option to select 1password in "Privacy and Security" settings. In Sequoia we have "AutoFill & Passwords" under the General settings in the sidebar. So it seems that it's not possible to use 1password to autofill in MacOS Sequoia. Is this something that 1password is working to fix? Autofill is a very useful functionality of course so I hope so. John

Thanks for the reply. The instructions are still valid for macOS Sequoia, did you try this step mentioned in the article: "If you don't see 1Password, click the + button, enter the password you use to log in to your Mac, and locate the 1Password app in your Applications folder, then select it and click Open."

Note: You'll want to do this under Privacy & Security > Accessibility and not Automation.

If you don't see a + button then can you post a screenshot of what you do see?

Hi Dave, thanks for coming back to my query. I have solved the problem with the help of the 1password support team. The key for me (having just upgraded to Sequoia), was to first use the autofill shortcut (command-backslash), which then enabled the 1password selection in Settings/Privacy & Security/Accessibility. I also turned off the Passwords feature in Settings/General/Autofill and Passwords to keep the Apple prompt from interfering with 1password. So now its working the way I like with 1password autofill.
