When to use Quick Access vs browser extension

I recently realized that there are two different ways of searching 1Password v8 in the browser: you can bring up Quick Access or you can bring up the browser extension's UI.

In v7 I didn't think of these as separate things. No matter the context, I'd hit cmd+\, and I'd be using 1Password Mini. In v8, I only just found out that there's a totally different keyboard shortcut to bring up the browser extension UI, and its functionality is very different from Quick Access.

I may be over thinking things, but I'm a little confused as to why there are two ways of searching & browsing 1pwd within a browser. What's the recommendation for when to use one method vs. the other?

@skatch Because I think the developers don't communicate effectively to one another, let alone the customer-base (in spite of the beta-tesing programme). It's evident in the removal of functionality and the bugs in 1Password 8 ...according to Agilebits, the 'best 1Password yet' ...that's deluded, it's not even ready for release.

The Safari extension is the nearest approximation to 1P Mini in 1P8, but is no replacement: it suffers from being positionally tied to the toolbar button resulting in the obstruction of web content and it cannot be resized — furthermore, the text-size and fixed column-width of the Suggestions list results in one being unable to differentiate items with similar names without checking the detailed view of each one.

In terms of search, you are not overthinking it at all — the search algorithms work differently, with different results — that's confusing.

I cannot help with which one is most helpful as 1Password 8 is so dysfunctional at this point that I've reverted to version 7.

The new quick access is a serious usability regression from the Quick Access we had in v7. I much prefer the version you get in the browser. v8 also removes quick access from the menu bar so the menu bar item is now basically useless. I don't really understand most of the usability changes that have been made in v8, it's a lot worse to use. When possible I use toolbar item in browser because it's great to use, and have completely turned off Quick Access as it's annoying to use. If needed, I now just open the full app instead

Hi @skatch:

1Password in your browser is great at creating new Login items directly from the page you're on. While it's definitely possible to just use Universal Autofill from Quick Access, for best results, you can use them together.
