Question

why won't DuckDuckGo autofill?

i use DuckDuckGo's search engine but if I want to use its browser and 1PW's autofill features (which I love, by the way) all that I get is to be taken to the website sign-in page. Nothing else works, I have to copy and paste the details. Why?

Hello @HelenBubz! 👋

I'm sorry that Autofill isn't working in DuckDuckGo. DuckDuckGo doesn't support extensions so you'll need to use Universal Autofill to fill into that browser instead. Try the following:

  1. Make sure that Universal Autofill is enabled: Use Universal Autofill in apps and browsers on your Mac
  2. Open DuckDuckGo.
  3. Navigate to the sign-in page of the website that you'd like to sign into.
  4. Click into the username or password field on the page and then press Command-Backslash on your keyboard.

Does 1Password fill your login credentials into the website in question? If it doesn't then can you share the website address of the website in question?

i had to copy and paste everything into Duck to get to this page - and the whole point of having a password keeper is that cut and paste doesn't happen!

@HelenBubz,

Thank you for your reply. Can you please share additional details about the issue you're experiencing with 1Password? What happens when you use https://support.1password.com/mac-universal-autofill/ from the 1Password desktop app?

Absolutely nothing happens @Evon.

Using DuckDuckGo's browser with 1PW open I type Cmd Backslash ( \ ) into the login to this site and it doesn't do anything at all. I have to copy and paste.

@HelenBubz,

Is Universal Autofill not functioning solely with DuckDuckGo, or does it also not work with other browsers like Safari? Have you configured it in your macOS system settings? -> https://support.1password.com/mac-universal-autofill/#set-up-universal-autofill

If you still cannot use Command⌘ + \, can you use Command⌘ + Shift⇧ + Space instead for https://support.1password.com/quick-access/?mac?

Nothing at all with DuckDuckGo, there's a couple of sites that Safari doesn't like much but I copy my password from 1PW when it is a problem, Firefox works wonderfully.

5 mins later: Cmd Shift Space works both on "unknown" sites (not in history or password list) and "known" ones in DDG!!! Thank you so much, now I can browse in a bit more privacy.
