Windows Hello and the Passkey Nightmare
I don't know what I did on my old PC to get Windows Hello to stop making a mess of my passkeys, but I just got one of these shiny new Windows 11 Copilot+ machines and now the problem is back. I can't get Windows Hello to stop "helping" every time I want to save a passkey. If I use Firefox, it's all good. If I use Vivaldi, which is my daily driver on my work machine, Hello insists on getting in the way which means I get a typically messed up passkey that only works on my work laptop (or not at all) and not in 1Password.
All the usual searches always go back to either "disable Windows Hello" which will cause all kinds of mess on these new 11 machines, or go into the chrome://password-manager hidden settings and disable the Hello integration, which I did. Somehow on my last laptop I managed to beat it into submission so I can use 1Password for passkeys, but I don't remember exactly what I did and now the problem's back on the new machine and I'm tearing what little hair I have left out trying to get passkeys to behave again.
Any suggestions on what magic combination of settings I may need to make Windows Hello say goodbye and let me use 1Password for passkeys on Chrome browsers without getting in the way?
