Glossary
Before you begin, review these key terms to understand the roles, groups, and vaults this launch kit refers to.
Owner
A person who can manage billing, rename the team, and delete the team, as well as do everything an administrator can. The person who creates a team becomes an owner, and they can add more people to the Owners group.
Administrator
A person who can create and delete vaults, manage permissions, invite people to the team, and start account recovery. The person who creates a team is in the Administrators group by default, and can add more people to the group.
Site administrator
A site administrator supports team members at a specific location or business unit. The term describes a responsibility, not a formal 1Password user type. If your organization has multiple locations, use the term to identify the administrators responsible for each one.
Groups
Groups help you organize team members and manage their access and administrative responsibilities. 1Password includes built-in groups such as Team Members, Administrators, Owners, and Security. You can also create custom groups with 1Password Business.
Vault
An encrypted container for items that can be shared with team members. You can create multiple vaults for different audiences and purposes.
Item
1Password stores everything you save as its own item. Items come in categories such as passwords, credit cards, licenses, and secure notes. See all item categories. Some items have special capabilities. For example, 1Password can fill a credit card into the checkout page of an online store.
