How can I increase my team’s 1Password adoption?

A successful 1Password Enterprise Password Manager rollout doesn’t end with the initial deployment. After you’ve sent the invitations, continue to monitor adoption, address barriers, and encourage team members to make 1Password part of their daily workflows.

Assess adoption with 1Password reports

Use 1Password reports to find team members who need support, including people who haven’t completed setup, aren’t actively using 1Password, or haven’t installed the browser extension.

  • The Adoption Report shows team members’ recent 1Password activity and browser extension status, so you can see who needs support or a reminder.
  • The Team Report shows who has redeemed their free 1Password Families membership (1Password Business plan only).
  • The Business Watchtower Report gives you an overview of security issues reported by Watchtower in your organization’s vaults, including Employee vaults.

Identify your 1Password champions

Some of your team members probably already use 1Password or another password manager and encourage colleagues to do the same. Ask these champions to answer questions, share tips, and encourage adoption within their teams.

Share tips and best practices

Create a dedicated Slack or Microsoft Teams channel where team members can ask questions and get support. Post monthly tips, answers to common questions, and other practical guidance to keep the conversation going.

Find out where team members need help

Use an anonymous internal survey to learn where team members need help. Review the responses for recurring themes, then decide whether your team needs more training, configuration changes, or clearer guidance.

Questions you can include:

  • On a scale of 1 to 10, how comfortable are you using 1Password?
  • Do you know where to find your organization’s password and security policies?
  • Which platform did you use to access 1Password most recently?
  • What common issues do you encounter when using 1Password?
  • How could 1Password better support your day-to-day work?

Keep helpful resources within reach

Make it easy for team members to find answers and learn new ways to use 1Password. Add relevant articles and resources to your intranet alongside your organization’s internal policies:

  • 1Password Academy: Introduce your team to 1Password Enterprise Password Manager with this self-paced course, which covers account setup, saving and filling strong passwords, creating vaults, and more.
  • Training videos: Share these how-to videos through your intranet or internal portal to help team members get started. They cover account setup, vaults, secure sharing, and more.
  • 1Password Support: Remind team members they can troubleshoot issues and find answers to common questions on 1Password Support.
  • Office Hours: Get your team set up and using 1Password in a live session led by the 1Password Customer Success team. Sessions cover account setup, saving and filling credentials, and secure sharing, with time for questions.

Encourage friendly competition

Run a competition where the team members who share the highest Watchtower scores win a prize. Watchtower scores the security of the passwords each person has saved, so a competition gives team members a reason to install the 1Password desktop app, review their password security, and fix weak spots.

The next chapter introduces a poster that you can put up in your workplace.
