Give Claude access without giving up your credentials

AI agents are getting better at handling real tasks for you, from shopping and managing subscriptions to updating accounts and navigating complex workflows. But as soon as they hit a login page, you're usually forced to choose: hand over your credentials or take over yourself.

That's why we worked with Anthropic to introduce 1Password for Claude. Now Claude can complete browser tasks that require logins and one-time passcodes, while your credentials stay encrypted in 1Password and out of the model's context.

With the integration, you can:

  • Let Claude sign in to websites using credentials stored in 1Password, without revealing your passwords or one-time codes.
  • Complete everyday tasks like redeeming expiring rewards, managing subscriptions, or checking your accounts with just a few prompts.
  • Use Claude with your favourite websites while approving every credential request, so you're always in control.
  • Keep your credentials secure, with access granted only for the current task.
  • Automatically protect your entire vault with Agentic Mode, which limits Claude to only the credentials you explicitly approve.
  • And much more.

Under the hood, your credentials never leave 1Password. Passwords and one-time codes aren't stored in Claude, written into its context, or exposed to the model. After your approval, 1Password securely fills the required credentials directly into the webpage, so Claude can finish the task without ever seeing your secrets.

Hi @1P_Blake ! The 1Password connector mentioned in the instructions doesn’t seem to exist. When searching for it in Claude, it’s not present in the list. Did something happen?

Hey @rdcezar! Are you using a personal Claude account, or a Teams/Enterprise account?

One thing we’ve seen trip a few folks up is that on Team and Enterprise accounts, an Owner or Primary Owner first needs to turn on Password managers in Claude before the 1Password connector will appear.

Hey @1P_Blake! I’m having the same problem. I’m using a personal pro account and the connecter isn’t showing up. I tried looking for a password manager setting in Claude, but it appears that’s only relevant for a Team/Enterprise account.

Hi @1P_Blake - I have a related but different problem.

For me the 1Password connector DOES appear, and pairing succeeds (I get the "Authorize Claude with 1Password" dialog and approve it with Touch ID). But every credential request then fails with "relayUnavailable" - the relay between the browser extension and the desktop app never seems to come up.

I'm on a personal Claude Pro account, so the Team/Enterprise "Password managers" toggle doesn't apply to me.

    Setup: macOS / 1Password for Mac 8.12.28 (81228025) / 1Password browser extension 8.12.28.25 STABLE / Chrome / Claude browser extension connected.

Already tried, with no change: swapping the extension from Nightly to STABLE, restarting Chrome / the 1Password app / the Mac, re-doing the pairing, and toggling "Integrate with 1Password SDKs" both on and off. Same result in both the Claude desktop app (Cowork) and Claude Code.

Any idea what else could stop that relay from coming up?

I’m seeing “Couldn't connect to 1Password. Check that it's open, then try again.” when I try to enable the Connector in Claude Desktop - is anyone else seeing this?

Hi @waddupcase! Just to make sure we’re not chasing the wrong thing, have you gone through the setup guide and gotten all the required pieces installed (Claude Desktop, Claude in Chrome, the 1Password desktop app, and the 1Password browser extension)?

If you have all of those, could you let me know which versions of the 1Password app and browser extension you’re currently running?

@waddupcase Sorry for the slow reply here! Thanks for pulling all of that together. Looking over your setup, everything you’ve listed looks right to me, so I’m not seeing anything that immediately jumps out as being misconfigured.

At this point, I think the most helpful thing would be to take a look at a diagnostics report from your Mac to see if it’s giving us any clues as to why Claude isn’t able to connect.

Could you send us an email at support@1password.com with a diagnostics report from your Mac? You can find the steps here: https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/

If you include a link to this thread in your email, that’ll help us pick up right where we left off. 🙂
