Improved date formatting in the 1Password desktop app

Hello 1Password Community!

With the next update to the 1Password desktop app (version 8.10.80), we have improved how date formats are handled when viewing and editing an item.

Leading up to this update, there has been some inconsistency with how the desktop application has handled date formats when viewing and editing items. In some cases, date formats were being determined by the display language set in 1Password whereas in other cases, date formats were being determined by the language set against the device. This has led to some users seeing different date formats within the desktop app causing confusion.

With this update, we've made things consistent by ensuring that dates saved against items always appear in a format determined by the locale set against your device (both when viewing and editing items) and never by the display language set in 1Password. This way, the desktop application can support more date formats than just the ones tied to the display languages that we support.

Along with the recent improvements that we made to the date picker, we are hoping that you enjoy a much improved experience with dates in the 1Password desktop application!

Hello folks!

With the release of 1Password version 8.12.32 (on August 11th, 2026), item date fields now use the date format you’ve chosen in your system settings. If you’ve set a language in 1Password that’s different from your system, dates use that language’s format instead.

If you continue to see issues with the date format in 1Password then please open a new thread and include the following information:

Platform: Windows, Mac, etc...
A screenshot of the language and date formatting settings you’ve chosen for your operating system.
A screenshot of the date format you see in 1Password.
The version of 1Password that you’re using.

This will allow us to identify any active issues with the current implementation of date formatting in 1Password (with version 8.12.32 and later) and ensure that we have an accurate understanding of the issues that folks see when using the current version of 1Password.

On macOS: The date format is still inconsistent with the macOS system settings.

I have Date Time Set for UK

but 1Password desktop showed dates as mm/dd/yyyy

I found the counterintuitive solution was in the ‘Windows Display Language’. It only offered US English. I had the English UK as ‘Preferred Language’ but not all the sub-parts were downloaded.

I downloaded all the language parts (I believe the ‘language pack’ was the part that actually mattered), this then allowed me to select display language to United Kingdom. A restart may be needed to allow English UK to be available in ‘Windows Display Language’.

With this 1Password now uses dd/mm/yyyy.

I’m pretty tech minded and this is an obscure corner of settings I would not have considered that the language would impact how an app would display dates given there is a specific Date format setting for windows.
I strongly advise 1Password to add info to the app/community/troubleshooting to enable people to find this out.
