PSA: 1Password 7 is being retired - upgrade to 1Password 8
Hi, everyone! Starting today, we’re reaching out to customers who are still using 1Password 7 to give them plenty of time to move to 1Password 8.
We know 1Password 7 still has a dedicated group of users, including folks here in the Community, so we wanted to create a place where we can share what’s changing and answer questions as we work through the transition together.
Nothing is changing immediately. Starting in May 2027, 1Password 7 will no longer sync changes for 1Password membership accounts. You’ll still be able to open 1Password 7 and view your existing data, but changes made there will no longer sync to your other devices.
If you’re using 1Password 7 today, we recommend making the move to 1Password 8.
If you already have a 1Password membership
1Password 8 is included with your membership, so there’s no additional cost to upgrade. Once you install 1Password 8 and sign in, your synced passwords, secure notes, documents, and other items will be there waiting for you.

Before upgrading, please review the minimum system requirements to confirm your devices are supported.
If you use standalone vaults
Your standalone vaults are stored locally and will remain accessible in 1Password 7.
We strongly recommend migrating your standalone vaults to a 1Password account. 1Password 7 is no longer being actively developed, and moving to a 1Password account in 1Password 8 means you’ll continue receiving updates and support going forward.

If you manage 1Password for an organization
If people in your organization are still using 1Password 7, now is the time to start planning their move to 1Password 8.
For organizations deploying 1Password through MDM or the Mac App Store, please review the migration guidance.
We know some of you tried 1Password 8 when it first launched and ultimately decided to stick with 1Password 7. Because of your invaluable feedback, a lot has changed since then, and we continue improving the experience.
Today, 1Password 8 is the foundation for everything we’re building across security, reliability, compatibility, and the overall 1Password experience. Focusing our development and support there allows us to keep pace as operating systems, browsers, and security standards continue to evolve.
We’ll have more reminders and information to share as we get closer to the retirement date. For now, there’s plenty of time to make the move.
