1Password CLI in Visual Studio Code - Remote development

Is it possible to get the Visual studio code plugin to work with remote development configuration? My local machine is MacOS, but I develop on a remote RHEL 8 machine. I have installed the CLI on the REHL8 machine and I can login, choose a vault, and save a value. But the secret identifier does not work, and op:// links are not hyper links, just normal text.

The preview with secrets option also works.

Also, if I run a python program, the secret value is not being imported, I just get the op:// value in my variable.
