Question

Github token should include expiration field

I recently discovered that 1password offers to save personal access tokens that I create on github.com, which is very cool:

What would make this even better is if this item included an expiration field by default. All tokens have (or should have) an expiration and it’s important to keep track of them. The “API Credentials” item type has an expiration field by default and so should this item.

NB: There’s no option to add an expiration field to this item type (Side note: I don’t actually know what kind of item this is?)

For now I’m using the notes field to save the expiration which is fine, but it would be nice to have a real field so Watchtower could in the future warn of upcoming expired tokens.

Thanks!

I found this thread because I noticed 1Password is no longer offering to save. I already have a few Personal Access Tokens in 1PW and I can’t create new ones with the same field label (“token” instead of “username” & “credential”) so I’ve been duplicating an existing item any time I need to add one. My existing ones do have the expiry field, so it sounds like we’re all over the place here. I do see that when I filter by the “API Credentials” category these are listed, so they appear to API Credentials type. It’s all very strange and confusing.

Agreed it’s not working as well as it could, but thanks for the tip about them being included in the API Credentials category; that’s helpful. I also took another look and discovered that while it's not there by default (for me), I can add an expiration date, I just didn’t notice it in my quick look because the field is called “Date” and I was looking for “Expiration.”

Probably my fault, but the solution would be to have the expiration date field as a default field when new tokens are saved.
