Question

op service-account - Plans for expansion of functionality like save item to vault and rotate?

Managing service accounts in the 1Password website currently supports functionality like:
- Create service account
- Save service account token to 1Password vault
- Rotate service account token
- Remove service account

The latter three functionalities are not available by use of the op cli (op service-account).
Are there any plans to add this?

See https://developer.1password.com/docs/cli/reference/management-commands/service-account/ for reference.

I would find this useful to periodically rotate the service account tokens through a local CLI.

Hey there,

Thanks for the feedback! While we don't have any immediate plans to add this feature, expiring and/or rotating service account tokens via the CLI is something we're considering for the future.

My employer is very interested in rotating service account tokens via the CLI in order to streamline compliance with our organizational policies for service accounts. Any updates on this feature request?

Having this would be a massive boost for us as it would allow for adding it to the Terraform provider, thus having more granularly scoped tokens created automatically.

Is "managing service accounts via a service account & CLI" still only in the "considering for the future" stage?
