1Password Passkeys not usable in Chromium-based browsers

I’m running into an issue with 1Password Browser Extension and passkeys on Linux and MacOs.
Its just not useable anymore.

The option “Save and sign in with passkeys” is greyed out.
1Password never appears in passkey login flows.

I have the issue on MacOS and Linux with Vivaldi and Chrome.
Different machines and different browser but chrome based.
With Firefox it works.

What I’ve already tried

  • Reinstalling the extension
  • Reconnecting the desktop app
  • Used nigthly builds
  • Installed older chrome versions

No change.

Can someone help please.

Thanks!

    Hey ChrisC1P

    Thanks for helping me.
I found out the problem. I have 3 accounts.
2 part of a organisation and one personal.

The use of passkeys has been prohibited within an organisation and disabled in the policies, which is why they cannot be used in the browser extension.

The problem is that this setting affects all my other accounts, where I absolutely need to use them. So it has been disabled for the entire extension

Is there any way to get around this, or would it be possible to submit a feature request?

    Thanks.

I suggest that you create a separate browser profile for your personal use, not just to avoid this perplexing policy problem, but because this separation is a very good idea for many reasons.

You may also want to configure the 1Password extension in each browser profile to only show the relevant account(s).

  • Hello nloges thanks for reaching out!

I'm sorry about the issues you're running into when trying to use passkeys in Chromium browsers

I'd like to ask you to try signing in with a passkey, then create and share a 1Password diagnostics report from the 1Password browser extension on both your Mac and Linux devices:

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support@1password.com. With your email please include:

After emailing in, you'll receive an auto-reply from our support system with a Support ID that looks something like [123456]. Post that here, and I'll be able to locate your message and make sure it's gotten to the right place. Thanks very much!
