Autofill intermittently stops working in macOS Safari

Hello,

1Password autofill randomly stops working in Safari 18.4 (macOS 15.4). I see the 1Password contextual menu (see screenshot of Etsy login dialog) but clicking it does not open my applicable login items like it should. When 1Password is still locked and I click the icon to unlock it, nothing happens. I can open the 1Password browser extension to see my logins from Safari's toolbar, but while it does show me the applicable logins for the page I'm on, clicking the Autofill button does nothing.

This is an intermittent problem that I can sometimes fix just by opening the website in a new browser window or a new tab. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. I've tried the workaround of toggling the extension's 1Password integration setting but that doesn't solve anything. (I should add that the browser extension does show that the extension is connected with 1Password.)

Help?

  • Hello fongd and MrUserGuy! 👋

I'm sorry that AutoFill stops responding in Safari on your Mac. This is an issue that the team and I have been able to reproduce and a bug report has been filed with our development team to get this fixed.

For the time being, opening the website in a new tab should get things working again. If that doesn't work then restart Safari by completely closing it and then reopening it.

No worries - just wanted to indicate it is still an issue.

Same issue it's been ongoing for months.  Restarting Safari resets the function but its temporary.

Is there any way to monitor the progress of this issue? It’s quite frustrating and significantly disrupts the workflow.

I'm sorry for disruption to your workflow. This is an issue that appeared in Safari 18.4 and our development team is working with our friends at Apple to resolve the issue but I don't have any updates to share at the moment.

I've made a note to update to this thread as soon as there's news. For the moment, open the website in a new tab to get things working again. Or restart Safari if that doesn't work.

Exact same problem here. Sometimes restarting Safari helps.  Seems like it broke after the Sequoia 15.4 update.
