Browser Extension Takes Over Browser Auto-Complete or Blocks Site-Generated Auto-Complete

Hello there friends!

I have been having this problem for a while and I'm wondering if it's just me that's bothered by it, or if maybe I have misconfigured something.

Sometimes, when filling out a form, the 1Password icon will show up on the side, and if I start typing, my browser might auto-suggest something. If I press the down arrow, to choose the browser's suggestion, 1Password "swallows" the keypress and then displays it's pop-over - but that's not what I want. It does this rather aggressively, meaning I can't use the nifty feature to help me fill out a form.

I've also noticed that sometimes this happens and the website's own auto-complete (like for addresses) is obscured and I can't then see or click on the auto-completed suggestions.

I don't think I want to disable 1P on all forms, but I also think I only want it to be available on forms that are specifically for login / registration (and even then, maybe not all fields!).

Is this just a me thing?

  • Hello whatsyourpassword! 👋

Thanks for reaching out! Are you able to provide an example of what kind of suggestions are being shown by both your browser and 1Password? For example, are these addresses or other identity information? Is there a screenshot that you can share that doesn't show sensitive information?

In general, I recommend that you turn off your browser's built-in filling tools and use only 1Password to fill login, identity, and credit card information: Turn off the built-in password manager in your browser

I don't have an identity stuff saved within the browser.

I think it's just the stuff that was entered into a text field with a similar name (or something to that effect).

And for that reason, I want that enabled - for some forms, I'd like it to remember some code I had to fill from an email or something to that effect. Most of the other type of info, identity, credentials, etc., I do keep and use 1Password for.

Thanks for the reply. Are you able to share a screenshot of what you see? If you don't want to share it on the public forum, you can send an email with the screenshot to support@1Password.com along with a link to this thread.

After emailing in, you'll receive a reply from BitBot, our friendly robot assistant with a Support ID that looks something like [#ABC-12345-678]. Post that here, and I'll be able to locate your message and take a look. 🙂
