Browser integration and update fail

I don't use Chrome very often, so a few days ago I noticed that 1Password kept making me login every time I opened the browser. I never had to do this before so I went poking around and saw that there was a connection error in the settings, even though my one pass Windows app was open. This morning it started happening with my Firefox browser as well. That has never been an issue.

I also noticed there was an update available so I tried to do the update, and that won't work either!

No matter which "Restart Now" I press, either nothing happens

Or I get:

In Firefox and Chrome I see this:

Everything seems to work fine except I'm constantly having to login. I have of course rebooted the machine several times.

  • Thanks to you and everyone at 1Pass for fixing my issue. It turned to simply be that I had changed the Windows app to run as administrator. I don't remember doing it, but ... there it is. I turned it off and Bob's your Uncle.

I'm glad that you were able to resolve the issue. If you have any other questions then don't hesitate to reply to my colleague's last email. 🙂

  • Hello artworksmetal! đź‘‹

I'm sorry that you're running into issues with 1Password on your Windows PC. I'm glad that you were able to complete the update. Regarding the browser integration issue, try the following:

    1. Open and unlock the 1Password for Windows desktop app.
    2. Click your account or collection at the top of the sidebar and click Settings.
    3. Click Browser.
    4. Turn "Connect with 1Password in the browser" off and then back on.

    Then in the browser:

    6. Open your browser.
    7. Right-click on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar and click Settings.
    8. Turn "Integrate this extension with the 1Password desktop app" off and then back on.

Then, restart your Windows PC. If that still doesn't work then do you still see a yellow dot in the browser settings page? And if you click on About in the browser settings page what version of 1Password in the browser do you see listed?

Thanks for getting back. As soon as I saw your response I thought that that seemed obvious enough I should've thought of it myself. Sadly, it didn't work. I tried several versions of turning everything often on, turning everything off, rebooting, then turning it on etc. but nothing. The browser extension in Firefox is  8.10.81.  Chrome is 8.10.80.23

Here is a link to the Chrome diagnostic file. I did not see that feature available on the Firefox extension.

I'm sorry that the steps didn't work. For the privacy and security of you and others in the community, I've removed the Dropbox link from your post.

So that I can investigate this further, I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from 1Password in your browser:

Send a diagnostics report (browser extension)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message (directly as an attachment) addressed to support@1password.com

        With your email please include:

        • A link to this thread: https://www.1password.community/discussions/1password/browser-integration-and-update-fail/157813/replies/157992
        • Your forum username: artworksmetal

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number.  Please post that number here.  Thanks very much!

One more thing, Colombo.  I checked bit defender. Both 1Password.exe and the browser support exe  are completely white listed In the firewall.  Not sure if that matters, but.

Since this posting I have been successful at doing the update. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the Windows app. But the connection problem continues…
